18K YELLOW GOLD ENGAGEMENT RING
This engagement ring is crafted from the most classic precious metal of them all, yellow gold.
It is 18-karat yellow gold, which means it is 75% pure gold. The other alloy metals are used to give the ring more durability. 18K gold is the most luxurious and exquisite gold of all commonly sold engagement rings, as engagement rings made from 24K gold would be too soft for everyday wear.
18K gold offers a very rich, buttery tone. Needless to say, it is obviously more expensive as it is purer and heavier than other yellow gold alloys.
When it comes to jewelry, 18K gold is typically saved for the most special of jewelry, which obviously includes engagement rings.
Can you wear 18K yellow gold everyday?
While 18K yellow gold is softer than 14K yellow gold, it is still durable enough for everyday wear. That said, it is more prone to scratches than 14K gold, but a simple polishing can eliminate any scratches if you so please.
Yellow Gold Benefits:
- Yellow gold is the most traditional of all gold colors. It will forever be in style.
- The warm tone of yellow gold makes for a very sumptuous look.
- Yellow gold contrasts beautifully with white diamonds.
- When yellow gold has been worn for a long time, its patina is said to have the most gorgeous luster of all precious metals.
- Yellow gold will always maintain its value.
- Yellow gold is the most hypoallergenic metal.
- It will never tarnish.
- Yellow gold doesn’t need to be replated like white gold does. We refer to white gold as it is one of the most common metals for engagement rings.
Is yellow gold popular?
Although yellow gold has been around for a very, very long time, and it has always been a popular choice, it has recently become the most trendy of choices.
Since the 1960s, white gold has been the most common precious metal for engagement rings. However, modern brides want to differentiate themselves from what has become the “norm”. With yellow gold, your engagement ring will really stand out among the rest.
In terms of engagement rings, with yellow gold, you can choose a lower color grade for your centerpiece diamond, and then upgrade in size. This is because the yellow gold will be visible through the diamond regardless of its color grade, so even a perfect color grade (D color) will show a yellow tint.
Thus, you can get a H-L color diamond with a yellow gold setting, where as a white metal like white gold or platinum you’d really want to get a D-F color diamond. This allows you to get the biggest bang for your buck without sacrificing the overall appearance of your engagement ring.
ROUND BRILLIANT DIAMOND CENTER STONE
For the center stone, this engagement ring showcases a diamond of substantial size. It is a 4.02 carat round brilliant diamond with K color and VS2 clarity.
If you aren’t familiar with the 4C’s of diamonds (cut, color, clarity, and carat weight), we suggest you read this.
What is special about a Round Brilliant Diamond?
A round brilliant diamond is not only the most popular diamond, but it is also the most brilliant diamond cut there is. It offers the best light performance thanks to it being perfectly symmetrical and its many small facets. Light bounces around a round brilliant diamond producing the best return of sparkle, brilliance, fire and scintillation.
What’s more, a round brilliant diamond will appear larger than other non-round diamonds as they have the best proportions for the face up dimensions. Essentially this means a lot of the diamond weight is in the top, which is what is visible when the engagement ring is on your finger.
Are round brilliant diamonds more expensive?
Round brilliant diamonds are the most expensive diamond cut. The main reason for this is a large amount of rough stone is cut away when creating a round brilliant diamond, more than any other diamond shape.
Note: Any diamond shape that is not a round brilliant is considered a fancy shape diamond. Learn all about fancy shape diamonds here.
Now, the upside of it being the most expensive diamond shape is that it is also the most valuable. This is because round brilliant diamonds are the most popular and easiest to sell.
Is a 4 Carat Diamond Big?
The average diamond engagement ring uses a 1-2 carat diamond. So, in terms of international averages, a 4-carat diamond is quite big. It’s a size that is going to standout big time, especially with a halo setting.
Just look at the pictures and you can see for yourself how big it is on the finger. This ring will surely take everyone’s breath away, just based on its sheer size. Combine that with its stunning design and large accent diamonds and you are left with a truly astonishing engagement ring.
Diamond dimensions:
According to the GIA certificate for this round brilliant diamond, it is 9.9 x 10.05 x 6.2. In other words, the proportions are excellent.
Is a K color diamond good?
K color is a very respectable grade for a diamond, especially one that is round brilliant as color is the least important factor for a round brilliant diamond. What’s more, this engagement ring setting is made from yellow gold, so any hint of yellow that would potentially be noticeable with a white gold setting will be a non-factor with a yellow gold setting like this one.
With round brilliant diamonds, clarity is a much more important factor, and this diamond centerpiece has a fantastic clarity grade.
What is a VS2 clarity diamond?
VS2 standards for very slightly included, which refers to inclusions in the diamond. With a VS2 diamond, you will have no visible inclusions to the naked eye. Inclusions will only be visible under 10x magnification, and those will be very minor in a VS2 diamond. All in all, VS2 is very good and its the sweet spot for getting a good quality diamond at the best price.
HALO SETTING
The halo setting refers to the diamonds forming a concentric circle around the round brilliant diamond center stone. The halo setting not only makes the diamond engagement ring appear larger, it increases the overall sparkle tremendously.
With the already substantial 4-carat diamond center stone and the larger-than-average halo diamonds, this ring gives the impression of a 5-carat diamond engagement ring.
The halo diamonds are G/H in color with SI clarity. The setting used to hold these diamonds in place is called a shared prong setting. So, each stone shares one set of prongs with the diamonds to its sides. The shared prong setting is great as it provides a look of diamonds spreading across the ring with minimal visible metal.
Altogether, the halo setting offers a classic look. It is a timeless style that will forever be desirable.
PRONG SET LARGE DIAMOND PAVE BAND
One of the most special features of this engagement ring is the diamond-covered band. While many engagement rings feature diamond accented bands, it is not often you see a band with diamonds of this size. The diamonds adorning the band of this engagement ring are colossal in comparison. They give the ring immense sparkle from all angles. Plus, the sheer size of them makes for a unique look. They contrast beautifully with the other diamond sizes. It’s almost like an eternity slash engagement ring.
Of course, the diamonds are of the highest quality, with a G color and SI clarity grading…just like the halo setting, but larger. However, instead of a shared prong setting, these bigger diamonds don’t share their prongs. They use a 4-prong setting.
The 4-prong setting was done extremely well. The diamonds are held securely in place so you can be confident of their security, but the prong sizing is minimal, allowing light to strike the diamonds from more angles, increasing its overall brilliance.
Can this ring be resized?
The current size of this engagement ring is 4.5. However, it can be resized. The diamonds only travel down to the lower half of the band, so there is free space at the bottom for sizing.
So, whether you want this ring bigger or smaller, we can accommodate your sizing request.
GIA CERTIFICATE
The diamonds for this engagement ring are GIA certified. Thus, we can guarantee the quality of the stones.
GIA, which stands for the Gemological Institute of America, is the most reputable diamond grading laboratory in the world. Across the world, GIA is the certification you want for your diamonds. GIA diamonds undergo a rigorous grading process and the reports that accompany them are highly respected and followed industry wide. If the GIA says a diamond is K color with VS2 clarity, no jeweler or buyer in the world will question it.
How do I know if my GIA certificate is real?
A GIA certificate is verifiable on the GIA website. There is a number on the certification that you can look up on their website, allowing you to confirm the information given on the cert.
